OIA is involved in an ongoing public information and presentations campaign, covering Puerto Rico, the Mainland United States and international locations. Recent highlights are presented below:
Manuel A.J. Laboy, PE, vice president of OIA, during a presentation at the the College of Professional Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico
On June 22 to 24, 2010 José A. Martí participated in a workshop on assessing OTEC's potential environmental impacts and risks, organized at Honolulu, Hawaii by the Coastal Response Research Center of the University of New Hampshire (Durham, NH). This invitation-only workshop was also sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
On May 6, 2010, José A. Martí provided a talk on OTEC commercialization during the Official Annual Conference of the European Ocean Energy Association (EU-OEA), at Brussels, Belgium. Press here for a copy of the presentation.
On May 4, 2010, OIA
presented a paper on the commercialization challenges of OTEC
at the 2010 Ocean Technology Conference in Houston,
where 72,900 energy
professionals from over 110 countries participated.

On March 9, 2010 a conference on heat exchangers for OTEC applications was presented by Manuel Laboy, OIA's vice president, at the College of Professional Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico as part of the continuing education program of the Puerto Rico Institute of Chemical Engineers. On February 2010, Manuel Laboy presented a paper on OTEC Heat Exchangers at the DOE's Savannah River Laboratory Energy 2010 conference in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Press here for a copy of the paper.

On December 11, 2009, OIA provided a presentation on OTEC as part of a Hearing of the Municipal Affairs Commission of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, under the direction of its chairman, the Hon. Cristóbal Colón Ruiz. Press here for more information.

Ruiz and Manuel Laboy participated in a workshop on the Technical Readiness of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) Technology, at the Coastal Response Research Center of the University of New Hampshire (Durham, NH).
